“Hey, Mommy…”

Repeat the title of this post 100 times in a high pitched, whiny voice and you will have some idea of what my life has been like lately.  Brandon has abandoned my nickname “Da”, except for the occasional slip up or if I am ignoring him, and only calls me mommy now.  This would be great, especially when I finally heard “I wuv you, Mommy” but I set an awful precedent by pretty much doing whatever he wanted whenever he would say it at first.  So, now, I hear it constantly through the day and I have to respond with “yes, Brandon” to satisfy him…if I say “hey” or “what” he just keeps saying it until I answer him correctly.

He has, also, been testing just how far I will go to please him.  The other day he dropped a bowl of goldfish, with a lid, and wanted me to pick it up. Honestly, I probably would have just done it on most days but I was busy and my mom was here, so I didn’t want her to see just how whipped I am by my own son, so I told him no, that he could get it.  He actually got within an inch of the bowl, pointed and said “No, Mommy get it” and insisted for a while.  Well, that definitely wasn’t going to happen now, so it became a battle of the wills. Eventually, something distracted him and he picked it up and ran in the other room, so I thought I had won.  Wrong! A few minutes later he came back in the room, put the bowl back on the ground and once again insisted that I pick it up. Now, this is one of those tough parenting moments where you know you should be stern and put on your tough mommy face, but you are so shocked by the audacity of a 3 year old that you can’t help but laugh.  I just turned my back for a minute so he couldn’t see me and then returned to my initial stance.  I can’t remember exactly how it ended but I know that I did not pick up that bowl.  He has been doing stuff like that all week, including hitting me for not picking up his milk cup for him, which did warrant an immediate time-out, and it is really hard not to give in, especially when I am in a hurry and just need something done.  Hopefully, it is just a phase and he will give up soon.

The best thing to keep me motivated is that I am officially getting big and pregnant so bending over to pick up every little thing is getting harder and usually cause instant heart-burn.  On top of that, I have the most active baby EVER poking and kicking me most of the day, so my mood has not been at it’s finest.  Brandon never moved this much.  I have been able to see her moving since about 6 months and she is so crazy that she can almost kick the remote off of my stomach and has given me bruises when she focuses on one spot.  She is either going to be a dancer or a spider monkey…we aren’t sure yet.  Right now she must sense that I am talking about her because she is trying very hard to seperate my ribs!  This is one of the reasons I have not been blogging lately.  There is really only room for her perform her choreography if I stretch out flat, not to mention we have the most uncomfortable office chair ever and it kills my back if I sit here for more that 20 minutes.  I can’t believe I still have 10 more weeks left!  I’m hoping she will calm down once she gets a little bigger and there isn’t as much room to move around.

Anyway, that pretty much catches you up on my day-to-day life and happenings.  Christmas was great…it was fun seeing everyone, but we were ready to get home.  My mom came last week and we got most of the nursery done (I will post pics when it is more complete).  I have now extended my 20 minute time limit in the torture chair, so I am going to take to my bed, at least for the rest of naptime.  I will try to post more often, I promise!
